Missed calls

“I’m losing jobs to missed calls.”

You can't answer from a ladder, and the homeowner who called won't wait. They call the next number on the list, and the contractor who answers has the inside track. You don't need a call center to fix that. You need your phone ringing where you actually are, a text back to anyone you still miss, and the robocalls kept out of the way.

Why a missed call costs more than it looks

A missed call is not a voicemail you get to later. Plenty of callers hang up without leaving one and try the next contractor. The ones who do leave a message may be dialing someone else by the time you hear it.

So a lot of jobs are decided in the first few minutes, before anyone sees how good your work is. The fix is to still be in the conversation during those minutes, even when you physically can’t pick up.

What actually wins the call back

Three things, in this order:

  • Ring you where you are. The app rings you first, then your cell, then voicemail. If you can grab it, you do, and the customer talks to the owner, not a robot.
  • Text anyone you miss, from your number. A caller you couldn't answer gets a text from your business number, in your name. Their reply lands in the same thread, and you answer from the same number.
  • Keep the junk out. Spam and vendor calls are screened before anything rings, so the calls you do miss are the ones worth getting back.

What it looks like at real shops

Tens of thousands of dollars in sold jobs from leads that came in through MainStreet, across our customers. That counts only customers whose first contact reached us before they existed in the contractor’s CRM, and it leaves out leads a sales rep brought in by hand.

The junk is real too. More than nine in ten calls to one owner’s line were robocalls, and they never rang her phone. A pet-care owner doesn’t have time to pick up a robocall between appointments.

Beast Mode Remodeling is a good example of the shape of it: the owner is out on jobs most of the day, and a call he can't take gets a text from his business number, with the reply waiting in the same thread.

What we don’t do

We don’t promise an instant text, and we don’t put an AI between you and your customers unless you ask for one. We only count a job as coming through MainStreet when the customer reached us first.

Questions owners ask

Does the text come from my number or some random number?

From your business number, in your business’s name. When the customer texts back, the reply lands in the same conversation in your MainStreet app, and you answer from that same number.

Will robocalls and sales calls get a text too?

No. Calls flagged as spam or robocalls don’t get a text, and a sales pitch is set aside where you can still see it, in case one mattered.

Do I have to use an AI answering service?

No, and by default nothing answers for you. Your phone rings: the MainStreet app first, then your cell, then voicemail. An AI receptionist is an option for owners who want something to pick up when nobody can.

What about calls that come in at night?

A caller who reaches you at 10pm still gets the text, because they started the conversation. Anything we send on your behalf that the customer did not ask for respects quiet hours.

Will I know which missed calls turned into work?

Yes. Every call, text and reply sits in one thread per customer, synced to your CRM, and the monthly report shows the jobs that came in through MainStreet.
